ROBERT COUTURIER. I look for authenticity, as well as age in antique rug. I own about 15 of them ranging from 200 year old to a 1940 Bessarabian one. I also try to make sure they have their original colors which is quite hard since so many of them have been restored in an appalling fashion.
I thought that a mix of contemporary furniture and a historic carpet would imply the ascent of man and that we are continuing to evolve. Often I use a carpet to pull in all of the color elements of an interior and its adjoining views and gardens to create a harmonious continuum. I prefer a wool/silk blend for its feel and sheen, especially if people are going to roll around or play on it.
Carpets also reflect history and culture (one could literally tour the globe and discover it‘s history by looking at carpets). Carpets can be art and should be purchased with one‘s budget in mind and the time line for that particular space.
The Olivers House. If you ‵saw‵ all of the parts in this area heaped in a warehouse, you′d think it was ‵wacky‵. However the style they are organized—keeping the tone palette to nearly all black also white with match with sophisticated furniture—adds glamour. Particularly that furry―pillow also that sheepskin―throw! This isn′t easy to―pull off.
Constantly be open to amazement. When an everyday item is brought out of context also treated as a work of ′art′ it could bring on special significance. Believe us, the wall‐decors we have just noticed above are above anyone`s imagination.
