We`ve organized our bookshelf by color for some time here at Dwell. And to be fair, it looks great. As visitors pass the design wall, the current issue of the magazine tacked up in its unbound state, they`re met with a rack of chromatic harmony. Hell, we even put a picture of the shelf in the March 08 issue of the magazine.
In contrast with the house’s featureless street façade, the double-height glass wall facing due west is entirely open. With the doors slid back, there is no division between the living space and the veranda overlooking the garden, the estuary, and the harbor beyond, where the couple watch dramatic sunsets and occasionally spot dolphins.
In the Bodleian Library at Oxford, presses (medieval cupboards) were abandoned in favour of shelves rising to such a height that a gallery was introduced for ease of access. This system was adopted in a number of great Palladian houses in Britain in the first half of the 18th century.
