Custom rugs are a signature in our interiors. However, we do use sisal rugs, which are not expensive, and these can cost between $5,000-$10,000 for that size.

I thought that a mix of contemporary furniture and a historic carpet would imply the ascent of man and that we are continuing to evolve. Often I use a carpet to pull in all of the color elements of an interior and its adjoining views and gardens to create a harmonious continuum. I prefer a wool/silk blend for its feel and sheen, especially if people are going to roll around or play on it.

A good contemporary rug should probably cost $10 to 15,000, unless it is a normal rug in which case $5,000 should do it, I must say that I am not quite sure.

It is most important to think about what objects you are choosing communicate, especially since you are creating a self portrait. Generally speaking, a foot to foot and a half off the walls. What should people expect to spend for a standard 8‘ x 10‘ rug? There is no such thing as a standard price…it all depends on your budget!

Scale is everything! Keep details of the room in mind; such as door swing and furniture leg placement when selecting size. A new carpet be around $15-20k, an antique will run approx $50-lOOk.

I own about 15 of them ranging from 200 year old to a 1940 Bessarabian one. I also try to make sure they have their original colors which is quite hard since so many of them have been restored in an appalling fashion.
