Unlike most American designers who start with a rug and build the room up from there I like to take a more European approach in which the rug is just a part of the overall design; I hate it when all of the room‘s colors look correspond to the colors of the rug…that looks a little too studied or "decorated" to me.

A good contemporary rug should probably cost $10 to 15,000, unless it is a normal rug in which case $5,000 should do it, I must say that I am not quite sure.

He`s not crazy, or aggressive, necessarily: he simply has a penchant for the shape and thickness of acrylic tables from the 60s and 70s, and so has identified the surface as his canvas.

I rather like where he goes from there, not arriving at some ur-system, but rather taking us through a couple recent examples of sorting books by color, suggesting relationships between texts as having color, and finally arrives at the idea that: "To rearrange your books is to see them afresh and to investigage yourself in the process."

I love to mix vintage rugs (Orientals right up through Navajos) with custom carpets designed specifically for texture and color. Blending them throughout a period or modern home updates the old and anchors the new.

I thought that a mix of contemporary furniture and a historic carpet would imply the ascent of man and that we are continuing to evolve. Often I use a carpet to pull in all of the color elements of an interior and its adjoining views and gardens to create a harmonious continuum. I prefer a wool/silk blend for its feel and sheen, especially if people are going to roll around or play on it.

I own about 15 of them ranging from 200 year old to a 1940 Bessarabian one. I also try to make sure they have their original colors which is quite hard since so many of them have been restored in an appalling fashion.
