Constructed from various materials found in nature, some tribes would focus on skinning animals for their hides, whereas others would use reeds and plants that they would weave together into a rug. In some areas, these rugs were handed down from one generation to another, and were often the family’s most prized possession due to the work and energy it took to make one.
WILLIAM HODGINS. Lay Flat! Rug should not take over the room. Wool—not nylon! DONNA LIVINGSTON. Most often, I love to kick start a project with an Antique area rug. I look for area rugs that are high quality hand knotted with both wool and silk.

I thought that a mix of contemporary furniture and a historic carpet would imply the ascent of man and that we are continuing to evolve. Often I use a carpet to pull in all of the color elements of an interior and its adjoining views and gardens to create a harmonious continuum. I prefer a wool/silk blend for its feel and sheen, especially if people are going to roll around or play on it.
